The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has released the FY 2010 Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) site-based grant announcement. Each PSN task force must identify a fiscal agent for the district, which must be certified by the U.S. Attorney's Office. Eligible fiscal agents include states, units of local government, educational institutions, faith-based and other community organizations, and private nonprofit organizations. BJA has released the FY 2010 Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) National Training and Technical Assistance Program competitive grant announcement. Applicants are limited to for-profit organizations, nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, faith-based organizations, and consortiums with demonstrated experience in addressing violent crime and anti-gang strategies. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) has released an evaluation of the development and implementation of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program. The evaluation found a greater decline in violent crime in cities that implemented PSN programs than in cities that did not, with the greatest reductions found in cities with a high level of federal prosecution.
