Community outreach and public awareness constitute essential components of any successful gun crime reduction plan. U.S. Attorneys work with their local communities to increase awareness of PSN, promote community involvement, and develop a gun crime reduction strategy.
Outreach activities include producing and distributing literature, conducting mail campaigns, sponsoring local workshops, and producing public service announcements (PSAs), educational literature, crime prevention toolkits, billboard advertisements, press releases, and news articles. Additionally, in collaboration with The Ad Council, DOJ has launched three national PSA campaigns aimed at reducing gun crime. The PSAs couple a strong enforcement message with prevention and deterrence messages. In this video, narrated by Tony Dungy, former NFL coach, three inmates reflect on the choices they made in their youth and how those choices changed their lives forever. The video serves as reminder to other youth that gun and gang violence never solve anything and that bad choices made now can affect their lives forever.
